Women's Tennis Picked Third in CC Preseason Poll

Centennial Conference Preseason Poll

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team has been picked to finish third in the Centennial Conference in the annual voting of the conference's head coaches. The Fords garnered 81 voting points in the poll. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Defending conference champion Johns Hopkins was picked to repeat as conference champion in 2019. Rival Swarthmore collected the other first-place vote and finished second in the poll. The Garnet won the regular season matchup with the Fords last spring before Haverford reversed that result in the postseason and advanced to the Centennial Conference Championship match. Franklin & Marshall and Washington College rounded out the top five teams in the preseason poll.

Haverford's returning lineup is highlighted by a pair of returning All-Centennial Conference performers. Jane Bary was a first-team All-Centennial Conference selection in singles last spring and will look to continue her success during her senior campaign. Junior Emily Shutman was an honorable mention all-conference selection in singles last year. Together, the pairing of Bary and Shutman teamed up to earn second-team All-CC recognition in doubles. Junior Clara Farrehi also returns to the Fords' lineup this spring where she combined for 20 wins between singles and doubles last year.

The Fords went 13-4 as a team last spring with an 8-2 record in Centennial Conference play. Haverford avenged one of those two conference losses during the semifinals of the Centennial Tournament en route to just its second appearance in the championship match in program history.

With a challenging schedule under second-year head coach Andrew Cohn, the Fords will open the spring portion of their schedule at home against No. 23 New York University on Saturday, February 23 at 1:30 p.m. Haverford begins Centennial Conference play on Saturday, March 23 at home against Gettysburg.
