CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Haverford College women's tennis team has certainly challenged itself with the schedule the Fords have put together while in California. Perhaps no match is a better example of this fact than Sunday's west coast opener as the Fords played defending national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Currently ranked No. 2 in the country after a runner-up finish at indoor nationals, CMS emerged with a 9-0 win against the Fords.

Haverford's newly-formed No. 1 doubles pairing of Jane Bary and Natalie Williams had the opportunity to test their mettle against the top-ranked pairing in the country. In the second and third doubles positions, the pairings of Emily Shutman/Clara Farrehi and Claire Johnson/Sarah Evenson both collected a game off of the nationally-ranked team.

Jane Bary's day against nationally-ranked competition carried into singles as she went one-on-one with the No. 37 singles player in Division III. Bary ended up taking a game during the second set of No. 1 singles, as did Emily Shutman against her regionally-ranked foe in the second spot of the lineup.

The Fords collected two games at both the Nos. 4 and 5 singles matches. Clara Farrehi took a game in each of her sets at the fourth slot in the lineup. Natalie Williams won both of her games during the second set of the No. 5 singles match.

Women's tennis will have Monday off from competition as the team continues to train out in California. The Fords will return to competition on Tuesday, March 12 with another nationally-ranked opponent in No. 36 Chapman.
