Women's Tennis Sweeps Past McDaniel, 9-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team won its sixth straight match overall on Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of McDaniel. The win gives the Fords (6-4, 6-0 CC) nine straight Centennial Conference regular season victories dating back to last season, tying the previous school record set by the 1994 and 1999 teams. Both of those teams had their winning streaks come all in the same season. Haverford's sweep was its second of the conference slate as the Fords also blanked Muhlenberg earlier this month.

With the convincing win on Saturday, the Fords remained tied with Johns Hopkins for the top spot in the Centennial Conference standings. Those two undefeated Centennial teams, which last met in the Centennial Conference Championship match a season ago, will play next Saturday, April 20.

The Green Terror only had five available players for the match, giving the Fords two points before play even got underway. The doubles teams of Emily Shutman and Clara Farrehi, along with the Renata DiDonato/Mima Khazanov pairing were each 8-0 winners. Shutman and Farrehi have now won three straight matches together in doubles and are 4-2 in conference play. DiDonato and Khazanov are now 2-0 in conference play after their highest ranked win together this spring.

Shifting the lineup in singles, Claire Johnson (No. 1), Ananya Prakash (No. 2), Mima Khazanov (No. 4), and Izzy Angstman (No. 5) were all 6-0, 6-0 winners. Johnson is now 7-6 on the year after playing at the top of the lineup on Saturday. Prakash now holds a 4-1 record in conference play. Khazanov has won two straight conference singles matches to even her season record, while Angstman is also 2-0 in Centennial singles. Sarah Evenson dropped just one game in the second set during her match at No. 3 singles and joined her other teammates at 2-0 in conference singles play this spring. Evenson has three wins overall this year.

Women's tennis will look to break the school record for longest conference winning streak this coming Wednesday as the Fords travel to Washington College for a 4 p.m. match in Chestertown.
