HAVERFORD, Pa. - Playing indoors due to some unseasonably cold temperatures on campus, the No. 36 Haverford College women's tennis team (10-5, 5-2 CC) remained hot, winning a fifth consecutive Centennial Conference match with an 8-1 triumph over visiting Ursinus (9-6, 3-3 CC) on Tuesday afternoon.

The first match of the day to reach completion was a straightforward 8-0 win from the doubles pairing of Ellie Esterowitz and Abbey Russano at No. 1, as the pair blanked Allie Armour and Maddie Russell of Ursinus.

Rachael Fitzgerald made her return to the doubles lineup with Mimi Lavin, grabbing an 8-2 win over Caitlin Vinsonhaler and Avery Samer before Annie Barrett and Summer Williams outlasted Shannon Stewart and Claire Burke (8-6) at No. 3 doubles.

With the 3-0 lead behind them, Haverford quickly turned its focus to clinching things early in doubles and did just that with Esterowitz allowing just one game to Vinsonhaler at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-1) before Mimi Lavin clinched allowing just one game in her battle with Russell at the second flight (6-1, 6-0).

With the overall decision in hand with Haverford's 5-0 lead, Russano cruised past Allie Armour (6-1, 6-2) at the top flight and Fitzgerald downed Burke at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2). Annie Barrett allowed just one game to Samer (6-1, 6-0) at No. 5 singles before Ava Compagnoni outlasted Liv Pindzola at number six in a superbreaker. Pindzola dropped the first set but responded with a 6-0 blanking in the second before a 10-2 win in the extended tiebreak for Compagnoni, putting a tally in the Ursinus column.

The Fords are now 38-2 all-time against Ursinus, including a 19-1 record at home. The Fords return to action on Saturday, honoring the lone women's tennis senior from the Class of 2022,  Anne Tobin, prior to a 1 p.m. non-conference contest against TCNJ.
