Distance Runners Set Pace for Women's Track Friday at Danny Curran Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. – The opening night of the Danny Curran Invitational saw a very strong start to the Haverford College women's outdoor track & field season as the Fords scored 25 combined points in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races Friday night. That total has Haverford in second place, just two points behind Messiah, heading into Saturday.

Sophie Drew led a large Haverford contingent in the 5K as she finished with a time of 18:10.20 to place second overall in the field of 50 finishers. Griffin Kaulbach (18:28.64) and Jolie Jaycobs (19:10.54) also turned in scoring performances as they placed third and sixth, respectively. Nine Fords in total entered the 5,000 meter race with Mckenna Krall (19:41.39), Natalia Cordon (19:43.66), Maggie Doubman (20:59.05), Zoe Arditi (21:00.61), Sophie Schleifer (21:22.19), and Annie Connolly-Sporing (21:40.61) also competing in that event on Friday night.

Angie Petrichenko was Haverford's top finisher in the 10,000 meter race as she placed fourth overall with a time of 39:27.58. Julia Smith (39:54.21) also posted a scoring mark with her sixth place finish, while Izzy Miller (39:54.89) finished inside the top 10 of a field that had 30 athletes finish the race.

Haverford's lone entrant in Friday night's throwing events was Unique Tuberville as she opened her outdoor campaign with a shot put throw of 9.65 meters (31'-8"). That mark placed her 28th overall in a field of 44 entrants.

The Danny Curran Invitational continues tomorrow with action set to get restarted at 10 a.m.
