ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Haverford College women's track & field team collected three more medals and a total of nine scoring performances on the final day of the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Fords' medalists featured silver for Sophie Drew in the 1,500 meters, a bronze for Jessica Lopez in the 200 meter dash, and bronze medals for Haverford's 4x100 meter relay. As a team, Haverford finished fourth overall in the final standings with a total of 68.5 points.
Drew earned second-team All-Centennial Conference honors in the 1,500 meter run as she crossed the line in a personal-best time of 4:39.58. Breaking 4:40 for the first time in her career, Drew now ranks 10th in school history for that event. The Fords' senior co-captain just missed a second scoring performance on Sunday as she was ninth in the 5,000 meter run in a season-best time of 18:01.31.
Griffin Kaulbach just missed joining Drew as a scorer in the 1,500 meters as she was ninth in that event, also turning in a new best personal best (4:47.21). Jolie Jaycobs (5:10.62) and Amalia Axinn (5:11.65) joined Drew and Kaulbach in the 1,500 meters, while Hannah Doll earned a 13th place finish in the 5,000 meters (18:44.08).
Jessica Lopez had a busy day on the track as she took home a pair of bronze medals. She started off her day by running the 4x100 meter relay with teammates Marisa Antinori, Naomi Fukuda, and Jasmine Reed as that squad finished in a time of 50.23 seconds. Lopez was also third as an individual in the 200 meter dash with the fourth fastest time in school history, 26.08 seconds. Lopez's day on the track included a fourth-place finish in the 100 meter dash (12.62 seconds), while she joined Sharon Nwankpa, Ruanna Small, and Julia Coletti on the sixth-place 4x400 relay to close the meet with a time of 4:13.18.
Haverford's other finals qualifier to compete on the track Sunday was Tess Oberholtzer in the 100 meter hurdles. Oberholtzer qualified fourth to that event final after the heats and looked poised to match or improve that showing before a runner tripping over a hurdle in the next lane got her out of rhythm with the distraction to her left. Oberholtzer finished in seventh overall with a time of 16.77 seconds.
Sunday's field events were highlighted by a pair of scoring performances in the triple jump. In addition to her four events on the track, Lopez was fourth in the triple jump as her best leap was marked at 10.45 meters (34'-3.5"). Grace Mathis was seventh in that same event with her best mark coming at 10.19 meters (33'-5.25"). Kerry Quigley recorded a top 10 showing at 9.86 meters (32'-4.25").
In the throws, Mari Horton was eighth in the javelin as she stuck her best throw of the day at 31.09 meters (102'-0"). Unique Tuberville (10th place) and Horton (15th) also both competed in the shot put. They finished with measurements of 10.45 meters (34-3.5") and 9.24 meters (30'-7.5").
With the regularly scheduled meets concluded for the season, women's track & field will now have the option to enter individuals into Swarthmore's Last Chance meet which is scheduled for next Monday, May 13 starting at 3 p.m.
