EWING, N.J. - The Haverford College baseball team (9-5) was defeated by host TCNJ (11-0), a team receiving votes in the latest D3Baseball.com poll, in a midweek non-conference baseball contest at George Ackerman Park on Thursday, falling by a 14-1 final to the Lions.

TCNJ scored seven runs in the first inning to set the tone as seven consecutive Lions batters reached with one out. The rally included singles from Ryan Goodall, Andrew Fernandez and Michael Schumacher. TCNJ tacked on two more in the second, with Jack Haynes lacing an RBI single and Mike LaGravenis adding a sacrifice fly. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Zack Hochheiser plated the 10th run for the Lions in the third inning.

Haverford scored its run in the fourth inning, with Jack Wallis legging out an infield single ahead of a double from Chuck Norton. TCNJ added a run on a LaGravenis single in the sixth and Goodall launched a homer in the seventh ahead of a Hochheiser RBI single for a two-run frame. The Lions pushed one more across in the eighth. The Fords were largely held at bay by reigning NJAC Pitcher of the Week Dan Merkel, as Merkel scattered six hits and one run over his six innings of work, striking out three. Mike Silver pitched the final three innings in relief for TCNJ, picking up his first save of the season.

Alex Jenkinson saw the majority of time on the mound for the Fords, tossing four innings in relief and scattering two runs and eight hits while striking out two. Daniel Rosman, Luke Treese, Wallis, Norton, and Kyle Beach each added hits for Haverford in the contest.

Haverford now returns to action on Saturday, March 23 hosting No. 4 Salisbury for a doubleheader at Kannerstein Field. First pitch of game one is slated for noon. Fans are encouraged to follow @HCFords_Sports on Twitter and @HCFordsSports on Instagram for the latest updates from Haverford Athletics.
