Field Hockey Ranked No. 20 in Latest NFHCA National Poll

HAVERFORD, Pa. -  The Haverford College field hockey team remains in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Coaches Top 20 Poll, checking in as the No. 20 team in the nation ahead of two big tests this week against Washington College (Wednesday, 7 p.m.) and Gettysburg (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.). 

The Fords, out to the best start in program history at 11-2 overall, will have another ranked showdown on the schedule next Wednesday, October 27. taking on No. 14 Ursinus. The meeting in Collegeville is another chance for the Fords to prove their mettle with two ranked wins (then-No. 8 Rowan and then-No. 18 Franklin & Marshall) already in their pocket in a dazzling 2021 season thus far. 

Haverford has the nation's 10th-ranked defensive unit, allowing just 0.82 goals per game while offensively, Ravenel Davis continues to top the Centennial Conference in goals (15) and points (33), marks that are good for 13th and 19th in the nation, respectively. The Fords also rank within the top 30 nationally in defensive saves and overall save percentage, with a pair of seniors in Caroline Channell and Hannah Roth helping to lead that charge, while junior Olivia Ahart checks in 23rd nationally in assists per game (0.62). 

The top five teams in the nation according to the latest poll release are No. 1 Middlebury, No. 2 Johns Hopkins, No. 3 Tufts, No. 4 Babson, and No. 5 Kean. Rowan has risen to the number six spot, going undefeated and outscoring opponents 40-1 in its contests since Haverford toppled the Owls September 18 on Swan Field.
