HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College field hockey team (6-5, 1-3 CC) dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 3 Johns Hopkins (10-1, 4-0 CC) Saturday Afternoon at Swan Field in Centennial Conference action. The game was played in seasonably chilly and misty conditions, with Johns Hopkins tallying in the second minute of action to set the tone for the remainder of the contest.

The matchup was part of Haverford Athletics' Pride Week, concluding the week of events as Haverford's Play with Pride Club hosted a Rita's Water Ice giveaway prior to first pass.

Siena Urbanski tallied her fourth goal of the season to open the scoring before Haverford had its first offensive opportunity of the contest in the sixth minute of play. Naomi York inserted a penalty corner that led to a pair of solid shots. Holly Vincent saw her attempt blocked by the defense, but the redirection found the stick of Anna Bradley, who rocketed a strong attempt to Alexis Loder. Loder made her sole save of the contest to keep the Fords off the scoreboard.

Ava Balacek eventually broke past the defense and tallied her second of the year in the eighth minute, scoring as part of a stretch in which the Johns Hopkins earned 10 penalty corners in an offensive-minded first period. With salvo after salvo testing Smith and the Haverford backline, the Fords did well to deny the Jays from that point until the halftime intermission with a scoreless second quarter.

Bradley broke through the Johns Hopkins backline and sent a strong challenge that sailed just wide for the first shot of the second half. One of the biggest moments of the game came in the early moments of the third quarter. In the 37th minute of action, Emily Amsden of the Blue Jays was awarded a penalty stroke. Mary Smith made a lunging save to deny the opportunity, keeping the score at 2-0.

In the 41st minute, Urbanski tallied her fifth of the season with a shot rocketed in from near the top of the circle, and a pair of goals from Gen Mehra broke things open in the fourth quarter. The visitors kept the offensive pressure up in the waning moments, as Mehra delivered in the 48th and 50th minutes of play.

The Blue Jays held a 22-3 edge in total shots, and a 15-1 penalty corner advantage. Mary Smith made a season high 12 saves between the pipes for the Fords. Anna Bradley had two shots, pushing one on frame, to lead the squad offensively.

Field Hockey will next be in action on Wednesday, as the Fords make the quick trip to No. 23 Bryn Mawr for a 4 p.m. contest on Applebee Field. The Fords then trek to Franklin & Marshall on October 14 to wrap up a two-game road swing before finishing with three of the final four contests at home.
