Men's Basketball Places Four On CSC Academic All-District Squads

Full CSC Academic All-District Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's basketball team placed four members of the squad on the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly known as COSDIA) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced earlier this week. Junior Brandon Banadda joined seniors Charlie Mamlin, Nate Torres, and Ryan Trotter in earning the award. The awards represent the first CSC plaudits for all four Fords.

This honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced at the end of the month. To be eligible for this honor a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have completed at least one full year at their current institution in addition to maintaining a 3.5 cumulative GPA while playing in at least half of the team's contests.

Banadda, a Philadelphia native, is a neuroscience major at Haverford. He had a breakout season for the Fords as he appeared in every contest, logging starts in six of the final seven games and tallying double-digit scoring in four contests, including a career-best 18 in a win over Washington College on January 26. He averaged 5.0 ppg and 3.2 rpg this season.

Mamlin, of Worthington, Ohio, emerged as a sharpshooter for the Fords earlier in his career and lived up to that billing as a senior, as he poured in 25-of-52 three-pointers and notched 98 total points. The Environmental Studies major logged 10 starts but made perhaps his biggest individual contribution in a game off the bench, as he rattled off a career-best 27 points, matching the Haverford program record for three-pointers made, launching seven in a win at Pomona-Pitzer on December 29.

Torres, of Bloomington, Illinois, was Haveford's leading scorer this season, averaging 11.7 points per game and was also the program's leading rebounder, pulling down 4.8 per contest as Haverford had four players average four or more rebounds per game this year. The chemistry major scored in double figures in 15 contests, and added 24 points against No. 9 Johns Hopkins on February 4.

Trotter, of Chicago, started all 25 games for Haverford, contributing 7.5 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per contest. The Computer Science major grabbed a season-best 19 points at Swarthmore on November 29 and scored in double digits in 10 different contests. He added a season-best 11 rebounds in the opener against Wesleyan on November 12.

The Fords finished the season with a 9-16 mark in 2022-23, including seven conference wins, and narrowly missed a berth in the Centennial Conference postseason, staying in the thick of the race until the final day of the regular season.
