HAVERFORD, Pa. – On Saturday, the Haverford College men's fencing team hosted the Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational. The Fords took on four MACFA opponents in their first live action inside the Andy Kates Fencing Salle this season.

Haverford came away with a decisive 23-4 win against the University of Maryland at College Park in the first match. The Fords also got past Navy and William & Mary during the third and fourth rounds. Haverford's lone blemish on the day came with an 18-9 defeat at the hands of Johns Hopkins.

The foil and sabre squads each had an undefeated round, against Navy and Maryland respectively. The epee was marked by a return to form for Eric Gardner, who avenged an earlier loss at the Temple Open against Maryland's Mevino. Strength in the freshman class continues to propel the Fords, as first years John Hare and Yan Yan Xie each won two of their three bouts against Johns Hopkins.

Men's fencing will have a break from competition during the upcoming weekend but will be back at home to defend its strips during the Haverford Holiday Invitational on Saturday, December 3. Fencing on that day is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
