Haverford Well Represented at CSA Individuals, U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles

PHILADELPHIA - The Haverford College squash programs were well represented on the first day of the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships and the United States Intercollegiate Doubles Championships, as the two tournaments began concurrently at the Specter Center in West Philadelphia. 

In individual action, Haverford's top flight players Ariana Solecki and Quinton Crawford represented the Fords in Round of 16 action.

Solecki was matched up with Harvard's Serena Daniel in the Holleran Cup Round of 16. Daniel, of the national champion Crimson, took the matchup in consecutive games, prevailing by 11-0, 11-2, 11-3 set scores. In the consolation quarters, Solecki took on Lucia Bicknell of Stanford, with the Cardinal player coming out on top by 11-1, 11-0, 11-1 final scores to advance to the consol semis. 

In Haverford's debut in mixed doubles action, the team of Solecki and Ben Schiltz impressed in their opening matchup, grabbing an emphatic win over the team of Dylan Panichello and Sofia Arsinev of Fordham. In games played to 15, Haverford grabbed 15-11, 15-10, and 15-8 wins to down the Rams contingent. Haverford was then upended by the duo of Callan Hall and Erica McGillicuddy from Columbia in the Round of 16, falling by 15-4, 15-5, 15-6 finals.

Solecki finishes her season with an 8-10 record, including four wins combined at the top two flights and four wins at the third flight. 

In his first appearance at the CSA Team Championships, Quinton Crawford was matched up with Haris Qasim of Drexel in the Molloy Cup Round of 16. Qasim grabbed the 11-1, 11-4, 11-3 victory, but Crawford looked strong in the consolation quarterfinal, grabbing the first game from Mateo Restrepo of perennial powerhouse Trinity by a 11-7 final. Crawford hung right with the Bantams player in the second, falling 11-8, before Restrepo was able to rattle off 11-3 and 11-1 wins to capture the match and advance to the consol semis. Crawford finishes his 2021-22 campaign with a 9-10 overall record, with nine wins at the top flight for the Fords. 

In men's doubles action, the team of Schiltz and John Collins was upended in straight games by a formidable pairing from Penn in Yash Bhargava and James Flynn. That duo from the Quakers took 15-6, 15-7, and 15-10 games to advance to the Round of 16. 

With the 2021-22 season now concluded, Haverford will now await the release of CSA Scholar Athletes and College Squash Association postseason awards expected later this month.
