George Jiang Earns CC Player of the Week Award

Full Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College senior George Jiang has been named the Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced in a release on Tuesday morning.

Jiang, Haverford's top flight singles player, capped off a great week as the No. 28 Fords won their fifth consecutive match, a neutral-site triumph over No. 40 Christopher Newport.

Jiang, the Atlantic South's No. 22 singles player, had a huge week for the Fords, beating a pair of regionally-ranked opponents in singles and teaming up with Stefan Johnson for a doubles win against a regionally-ranked doubles pairing. Jiang helped lead Haverford to triumphs over Washington College and No. 40 Christopher Newport as the Fords extended their winning streak to five matches.

Against Washington College, Jiang and Johnson opened the match with an 8-7 (14-12) victory over the 11th-ranked doubles pairing in the region at the No. 1 position. In singles play, Jiang upended Karl Hoegstedt 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 1-0 (10-7), the No. 8 singles player in the region, at the top singles spot. Against Christopher Newport, Jiang posted a 7-5, 6-1 triumph over Ryan Macy, who is ranked No. 9 in the region.

This is the third Player of the Weeek honor for Jiang, who was also honored during his first year fall campaign in 2018 and in 2020. The Tucson, Ariz. product is a two-time second-team All-CC selection, earning that award in 2019 for both singles and doubles.
