HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College senior George Jiang has added another accolade to his already impressive collegiate resume by earning a slot on the 2022 PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Men's Tennis team, the Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association announced this week.

The team is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be in his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better.

The Tucson, Ariz. product earned the award after a season in which he was selected to represent the Fords as an alternate at the NCAA Singles Championships and was a first-team All-Centennial Conference selection in singles and a second-team honoree in doubles.

The chemistry major graduated in May and finished his career ranked No. 47 in the ITA National Singles Rankings and 10th in the Atlantic South after a stellar season guiding the No. 29 ranked Fords as the top flight singles player.  Jiang compiled a 7-9 record for the Fords during the dual match season, including a 5-2 mark in Centennial Conference play in singles. The Tucson, Ariz. product was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week on April 26 after a pair of regionally ranked wins against opponents from Washington College and Christopher Newport.

In 2019, the last time full spring teams were unveiled, Josh Moskovitz was named Academic All-Area Performer of the Year, joining Kevin Yan on the squad. The Fords have placed 12 team members on the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area squads in program history.
