Men's Tennis Dodges Gettysburg, 7-2

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - After heading out for one of the longest road trips of the conference season, the Haverford College men's tennis team (5-5, 2-1 CC) came away with a 7-2 victory over the host Bullets (2-5, 1-2 CC) of Gettysburg College on Saturday afternoon at the Bullets Tennis Courts. 

Doubles competition began with Haverford's Adam Chow and Justin Minerva pairing defeating JP Damare and Adam Contract of Gettysburg, 8-4 at the second flight, giving Haverford its first match win of the afternoon. At the third doubles flight, Haverford's Aiden Kim/Abhinav Nallapareddy then secured an 8-1 victory over Gettysburg's Matt Rau and Michael Zayneh. Stefan Johnson and James McKenzie later locked horns with Alex Kagan and Michael Fellman in a close matchup at the top doubles flight, but Johnson/McKenzie managed to clinch the match with an 8-6 scoreline. giving Haverford a clean sweep of the doubles matches heading into singles play with all of the momentum. 

Moving into singles play, Adam Contract of Gettysburg defeated Haverford's Danny Loder 6-3, 6-1 to give the hosts their first individual match win of the evening, stopping the Haverford run. Aiden Kim resumed Haverford's winning ways with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Michael Zayneh at the third flight, and Andreas Wingert clinched the match shortly after with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Alex Kagen at the second flight.

At the top flight, Gettysburg got its second win of the afternoon as Michael Fellman outlasted Stefan Johnson in a second-set tiebreaker winning the match with a 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) scoreline.

Haverford's Adam Chow and Abhinav Nallapareddy then rounded off the singles matches with dominant performances at the fifth and sixth flights, defeating Hayden Strittmatter and JP Damare respectively, both prevailing with 6-1, 6-0 scorelines.

The Fords now improve to 45-4 all-time against Gettysburg and have not lost to the Bullets since 1998.

Haverford is next in action on Thursday, hosting rival No. 29 Swarthmore (4 p.m.) in what the Fords certainly hope will be the outdoor home opener. The match is also Haverford's Mental Health Awareness Match in conjunction with The Hidden Opponent and the Centennial Conference.
