Top 10 Performances Highlight the Night for Men's Track and Field at TCNJ Invite

NEW YORK - The Haverford College men's track and field team kicked off the 2022 portion of the indoor campaign with a trip to the TCNJ Indoor Invitational at the NYC Armory on Saturday evening. The event featured entrants from 17 programs, including Division I squads Columbia, Fordham, Harvard, Iona, and Marist along with rival Swarthmore and the host Lions. 

In the 60 meter dash, Jonathan Hill notched a 25th-place showing with a time of 7.36. Ashton Smith (7.76), Amon-Ra Kamit (7.61) and Nathan Ma (7.88) also competed in the opening sprint event for the Fords. Hill reprised his strong showing in the 200 meter dash, with a 18th place finish in 23.73, with Kamit finishing in 29th (24.51), and Smith crossing just behind in 32nd (24.81). Jacob Foster was the lone entrant in the 400 meter dash for the Fords, with a time of 54.26, also good for 18th. 

A big field of runners in the 800 meters was highlighted by top 10 finishes from Jamie Moreland and Reza Eshghi. Moreland was the fifth to toe the line, in 1:57.27, with Eshghi coming in seventh place (1:57.54). Scott Kaiser (2:03.31) and Sammy Schindel (2:06.36) also crossed within the top 30 in the loaded field.The mile run also saw the Fords with a top 10 finisher, as Nico Tripeny followed up a strong cross country campaign with a sixth-place finish (4:25.90), while Charlie Ferguson was just outside the top 10 in 11th place (4:29.91) and Jacob Gaba crossed in 24th with a personal-best time of 4:45.85.

In the crown distance event of the night, Max Brelig and Peter Buckley each achieved top 10 finishes in the 3,000 meters. Brelig was the top Haverford crosser, with a time of 8:40.59, a new career best, good for fourth place. Buckley was the eighth to cross, in 8:46.66, while first year Miles Colescott established a strong time of 8:56.57 for 13th and Ryan Kredell was the 23rd to cross in 9:21.60. 

Ravi Eaton (6.10m) and Nathan Ma (5.36m)  both posted strong marks in the long jump, with Eaton also competing in the triple jump, notching a mark of 12.51 meters, a new indoor best in an homecoming meet for the New York City native. Eaton finished 14th in the long jump and seventh in the triple. Rasaaq Shittu threw 9.95 meters in the shot put, good for 19th overall. Ethan Gadra, the program record holder in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault, started his solid campaign with an eye towards an NCAA berth. He notched a 4.10 meter performance in his first mark of the indoor season. 

The Fords will next return to action on Saturday, January 22 at the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus. The event is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
