ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Haverford College Men's Track & Field team opened up the three-day 2024 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with five Haverford distance runners taking to the track in the 10,000 meters on Friday night at Scotty Wood Stadium on the campus of Muhlenberg College.

At the end of the first day that featured limited action, Haverford sits in fourth place overall in the team standings.

Junior Peter LaRochelle continued a stellar season with a runner-up performance in the event, crossing the finish line in 30:44.97. LaRochelle finished third in the event a season ago, as he improved on that finish to earn his second silver at the outdoor meet this time around. He also was a second-team selection in the 5,000 meters at the 2024 indoor championships in March.

Also scoring for the Fords was Luca Ponticello, as the senior capped his career with a personal-best 31:21.91 finish for seventh place overall. Ponticello scored two points for Haverford with the finish.

Finishing outside the scoring places was the trio of Jakob Maiwald, Joseph De Rosa, and Sammy Schindel. Maiwald earned a personal record with a 32:13.71 performance in the event for 15th place, while De Rosa was 20th overall, finishing in 33:20.09. Senior Sammy Schindel finished 24th overall, clocking a time of 33:54.61.

The second day of events at the CC Championships begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. as day two features a bevy of scoring events as well as prelims for many track distances. Live video and live results are available via the CC Championships Central page.
