No. 16 Men's Cross Country Finishes 16th at Paul Short Run Brown Race

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The No. 16 Haverford College men's cross country team raced to a 16th-place finish at the Paul Short Run Brown Race, as the Fords took to the course on a seasonably warm Saturday afternoon at the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University.

Haverford's Peter LaRochelle was the top Division III finisher in the event in 25:13.2, edging Hunter Brignall of SUNY Cortland (25:13.9) for eighth place overall. 

The Fords were the fourth Division III team to finish in the race, behind just Middlebury, NYU, Emory, and Washington & Lee. Haverford finished ahead of Division I sides from UMBC, Colgate, Bryant, Lafayette, Robert Morris, Wagner, VMI, Mount St. Mary's, Holy Cross, Duquesne, Longwood, LIU, Niagara, NJIT, Le Moyne, Quinnipiac, Fairfield, Saint Francis (Pa.), and FDU. 

Haverford scored a total of 471 points, with Nathaniel Leighninger next to cross after LaRochelle. Leighninger finished in 26:04.9 in 79th while Matt Denton was just behind in 26:06.3 for 82nd place overall.

Seamus Fraser was the 146th runner to toe the line, crossing in 26:36.5, ahead of teammate Luca Ponticello (157th, 26:40.6) who rounded out the scoring contingent. Haverford's top seven was rounded out by Reza Eshghi (178th, 26:54.7) and Micah Lachman (184th, 27:01).

The Haverford finishers also included Jakob Maiwald (205th, 27:10.6), Evan Daniels (244th, 27:36.3), and Sammy Schindel (247th, 27:38.6). 

In the open race that kicked off the day of action in the morning, Reed Solomon was the top Haverford finisher in 247th (27:28.2), while Joseph DeRosa (347th, 28:23.9), William Harris (350th, 28:25.5), Owen Bluman (381st, 29:03), Torin Pelton-Flavin (389th, 29:12.5), Deven Abrams (399th, 29:18.5), Rowan Shigeno (414th, 29:31), Sam Diaz (441st, 30:12.1), Tommaso Wheeler (442nd, 30:12.2), Cullen Worth (467th, 30:59.4), Kieran McDonnell (4777th, 31:29.6), Xingyun Yang (491st, 32:50.3), and Keqing He (501st, 34:21.1) also represented the Fords. 

Men's Cross Country jumps right back into action with the NCAA Pre-Nationals Invitational, hosted by Dickinson College, on Saturday, October 7. The action on the course at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa. is slated to begin at 11 a.m, as the race serves as the first chance to see the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships course.
