Full Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The 2023 Centennial Conference fall academic honorees were unveiled on Tuesday afternoon, showcasing Haverford College junior Peter LaRochelle, who clinched the Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year award after emerging as a standout on Haverford's roster.

A Mathematics major, LaRochelle received the award as a junior or senior member of the All-Centennial team with the highest cumulative grade point average. The Scholar-Athletes of the Year distinction was first introduced in the Centennial Conference in 2013.

LaRochelle's remarkable season included achieving All-America status by the USTFCCCA after securing 35th place at the recent NCAA Championships in Newville, Pa., with a finishing time of 25:04.8. This accomplishment further solidified his place in Haverford's storied tradition as the 40th cross country All-American in program history. Notably, this marked LaRochelle's second appearance at the national meet, a significant improvement from his 137th finish at the previous season's national championships in Lansing, Michigan.

In his junior season, LaRochelle earned Metro Region Athlete of the Year honors by clinching the individual title at the Metro Region Championships in 24:45.1. The junior from Great Barrington, Mass., previously impressed with a runner-up finish at the Centennial Conference Championship, completing the race in 25:32.6.

The academic plaudits are yet another accolade for LaRochelle in 2023, as the junior runner took home a spot on the First-team All-Centennial list, as well as being named a two-time Centennial Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week over the course of the fall.
