Grant's Heroics Send Fords over Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa.  – Sophomore Maura Grant provided the heroics as she scored the game-winning goal with five seconds left to help the Haverford College women's lacrosse team defeat the Dickinson College Red Devils 11-10 at Biddle Field on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Molly Lausten got the entertaining game started with a goal at the 24:08 mark of the first half. Dickinson's Elizabeth Sitko scored back-to-back tallies to give the Red Devils the lead about 90 seconds later. Senior Diana Perry tied the game at two and then Lausten scored her second of the contest to give the visitors a 3-2 advantage with 15:35 remaining. Dickinson tied the contest for a third time 40 seconds after Lausten's goal. The two Centennial Conference teams exchanged goals before Lausten and sophomore Sarina Manetta gave the Fords a 6-4 lead heading into halftime.

It was an impressive performance for Haverford in the first half as it outshot Dickinson 15-5 and created seven turnovers. Lausten had her third career hat trick in the first 30 minutes of game action.

Dickinson got within one by scoring two of the first three goals in the second half, making the score 7-6 with 23 minutes left in the game. The Fords went on a three-goal outburst with tallies from Manetta, Lausten and junior Elyse Adler to jump in front 10-6 with 5:26 to go.

The home team didn't go away as Carly O'Brien and Kelly Haglund combined to score four straight goals over the final four minutes of the contest including Haglund's game tying shot with 44 seconds to go. Grant recorded her 10th goal of the season with just five seconds on the clock on an assist from Perry.

Lausten had a game-high five goals and now has 27 on the year which ranks eighth in the Centennial Conference. The freshman has scored a goal in every game this season. Manetta posted her third career hat trick and also had an assist. Perry had her team-leading 37th goal of the season while junior Megan Chenworth made five saves in the win.

Head coach Lauren Wray's squad improves to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference while Dickinson drops to 4-5 this season and 1-3 in conference play. The Fords have a week off before welcoming Bryn Mawr to Swan Field next Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
