Sam Silverman Named CC Player of the Week

Full CC Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College junior attacker Sam Silverman has been named the Centennial Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, the organization announced in its weekly awards release on Tuesday morning.

Silverman, of Catonsville, Md. proved to be a difference maker in Haverford's 15-12 victory over Scranton on Saturday at Swan Field. Silverman was everywhere for the 2-0 Fords, tallying two goals and five assists for a seven-point performance against the Royals. Silverman also collected four ground balls and caused a turnover in the victory.

Three of Silverman's assists came in the decisive fourth quarter, including the helper on Nancy Tucker's eventual game-winning score with 7:09 remaining. This is the first weekly award of Silverman's career, but the junior previously saw recognition from the conference as she picked up a spot on the CC Academic Honor Roll a season ago. In last year's one-game season, Silverman notched a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner over Muhlenberg at Swan Field.

Haverford now heads out on its spring break trip to the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, with a matchup against No. 22 Christopher Newport slated for Wednesday night (7 p.m.) in Newport News. Haverford will look to prove its mettle against a ranked opponent after opening the season receiving votes in the ILWomen/IWLCA coaches poll.
