Women's Squash Drops a 5-4 Decision to Georgetown

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's squash team dropped a tough 5-4 decision to the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday afternoon at the GIAC Squash Courts.

Freshman Isabelle Gotuaco won easily at the No. 1 position, losing just 11 points. Senior Alex Love had similar ease, dropping just 14 points in her three-game win.

Junior Bethany Simmonds also was victorious, winning in four games at the No. 2 position. The last three games were decided by six points. Simmonds lost game two 11-9, but took games three (11-9) and four (12-10). Senior Avery Weisel won the first two games, before losing 11-5 and 11-8 in the next two. In the decisive game five, Weisel took home the point for the Fords with a 12-10 victory.

Senior Samara Flug suffered a tough five game loss at the No. 5 position.  The senior captain took the first two games 14-12 and 11-8. After losing game three by a score of 11-8, Flug fell in games four (11-9) and five (14-12) by a combined four points. Junior Emily Berlin also lost in five games. Berlin was up two games to one, but lost games four and five. Freshman Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow won the first two games, but lost three straight. Sophomore Isabel Agnew went down in four games while junior Alyssa Kaden was taken down in three.

The match had four positions go to five games and eight individual games go to a tie-breaker.

Haverford's record dropped to 8-5 on the season. The Fords will host Boston College and Bucknell next Saturday (Feb. 7) before heading to the College Squash Association's Team Championships (Feb. 13-15).
