MEDFORD, Mass. - The 28th-ranked Haverford College women's squash team (5-10) was defeated by No. 25 Georgetown (10-12) by a 6-3 final on Saturday afternoon in Epps Cup semifinal action at the CSA Team Championships inside the Tufts Squash Center. The Fords put up a valiant effort against the Hoyas, improving on prior 9-0 and 8-1 losses to Georgetown during the regular season with the decision.

Caroline Smith looked strong at the fourth flight as she dispatched Grace Feagin in four games. Smith was an 11-8 winner in the opening game, but Feagin responded to even things at 1-1 with a big game victory. Smith was more than up to task from that point, turning away Feagin with 11-5 and 11-8 triumphs to put a tally in the Haverford ledger.

At the ninth flight, Lyvia Yan took down Catherine Friendly, as she shook off an opening game loss to rally back with three consecutive victories. Yan allowed just three points in the closeout fourth game, proving to be the stronger player when it mattered most.

After the match had already been clinched for Georgetown, Shreya Singh put a point in the Haverford ledger behind a masterful sweep of Minna Holleck. Holleck looked overmatched at the sixth flight as the Haverford senior took 11-7, 13-11, and 11-7 victories for a big victory. K Zhang won her exhibition matchup with Sophie Stewart at tens, also shaking off a first-game loss and rallying for three consecutive triumphs.

Catherine Fortin, Ariana Solecki, and Emi Krishnamurthy all also took their opponents to a fourth game despite narrow losses.

The Fords now face off with No. 27 Connecticut College, as the Camels were taken down by No. 26 Colby in the other semifinal. The Epps Cup third place match will take place at Tufts at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday as Haverford will look to reverse a 6-3 Connecticut College victory back on December 4 at the Vassar Round Robin.
