Women's Tennis Starts 4-0 After Victories over RPI, Emerson

ORLANDO, Fla. -  The Haverford College women's tennis team improved its record to 4-0 with a pair of victories as early season competition continued in Orlando. The Fords made quick work of RPI in an afternoon battle at Sanlando Park in nearby Altamonte Springs, taking a 7-2 decision before returning to take down Emerson in a matchup at the USTA National Campus that began on Monday but was eventually halted until Tuesday afternoon. The Fords are 4-0 to begin a spring break trip for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Haverford started strong in the match with RPI, grabbing two of three doubles points with the squads of Emily Oh and Mimi Lavin as well as Abbey Russano and Elle Esterowitz picking up victories.

Moving into singles competition, Rachel Fitzgerald grabbed a win at No. 1 singles, coming back from a first-set loss to rattle off a 6-4 victory and emerge victorious in the pro-set tiebreaker. Following in her footsteps, Russano did the same at the second flight while Oh and Summer Williams had straight forward victories at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively. Mimi Lavin picked up an abbreviated victory as her opponent was forced to retire. In the evening match, which was completed on Haverford's originally scheduled off day of Tuesday, the Fords looked strong against an Emerson squad with all three doubles pairs picking up points before the rain came and forced the matches to be halted.

Fitzgerald and Anne Tobin teamed up for the victory at No. 1 doubles (8-3) while Oh and Liv Pindzola picked up the win at number two (8-1). Annie Barrett and Williams then collected the win at No. 3 with a resounding 8-2 win. In singles play, Esterowitz breezed past Anne Woodbury (6-1, 6-0) at the third flight, while Williams clinched the match with her 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ava Mirisola at the fifth. Annie Barrett was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at the fourth flight.

Haverford now returns to action on Wednesday, March 9 with a pair of matches at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. The Fords take on Kenyon (11:30 a.m.) and Wittenberg (6:30 p.m.).
