HAVERFORD, Pa. - In their first home match of the season, the 34th-ranked Haverford College women's tennis team (5-4, 2-0 CC) picked up their second straight Centennial Conference win besting Ursinus (8-4, 0-2 CC) 9-0, on Staff and Faculty Appreciation Day inside Alumni Field House on Wednesday afternoon.

The match was relocated from the Bettye Marshall and Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts to the Alumni Field House because of poor weather conditions in the Philadelphia area.

Haverford took a commanding 3-0 lead out of the gates, as the team of Rachael Fitzgerald and Abhishree Menon dispelled the duo of Claire Burke and Bella Vassalluzzo 8-1, to put the first Scarlet and Black point on the scoreboard.

On court one, the paring of Abbey Russano and Ellie Esterowitz denied Alessandra Armour and Avery Samer 8-2, while the combo of Erika Phanord and Summer Williams took down Caroline Daly and Julia Nitz 8-2 on court three, to give Haverford the comfortable 3-0 lead headed into singles play.

Emily Oh continued her 2024 unbeaten stretch in singles play by defeating Burke 6-1, 6-0, to win her eighth-straight singles match, as the Fords went up 4-0 over the Bears. Her teammate Annie Barrett then made quick work of Fiona Finnerty 6-0, 6-0 in flight six, while Menon turned away Samer 6-0, 6-1 in flight three, earning her second win of the day.

Over in flight four, Sriya Krishna prevailed over Daly 6-1, 6-2, to increase the Scarlet and Black's lead to 7-0, before Erika Phanord picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kate Rubinkam in flight five.

Playing number one singles, Mimi Lavin cruised over Armour 6-3, 6-0, to lock up the 9-0 victory for Haverford.

Women's tennis will now return to action Saturday, April 6, as the Fords will welcome the Bullets of Gettysburg to the Bramall/Marshall Courts at 12 p.m. The match will be part of the Centennial Conference's green-out games for Mental Health Awareness Week in collaboration with The Hidden Opponent.
