No. 33 Women's Tennis Falls to No. 7 Johns Hopkins, 6-3

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 7 Haverford College women's tennis team (7-5, 4-1 CC) dropped a Centennial Conference match to No. 7 Johns Hopkins (12-4, 6-0 CC) 6-3 Sunday morning, on the Bettye Marshall and Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts. The match originally scheduled for April 13, at 10:30 a.m. was shifted to Sunday at 11:30 a.m. due to high winds on Saturday.

The Blue Jays got off to an early lead in doubles play, as the duo of Sydney Langer and Kamila Wong defeated Emily Oh and Mimi Lavin 8-3, to give Johns Hokpins their first point of the day. JHU went up 2-0 following a win from Ashley Chang and Lia Melvin over Rachael Fitzgerald and Abhishree Menon, before Haverford gained the final doubles point from a victory by Abbey Russano and Ellie Esterowitz over Jay Xiao and Sophia Kim.

Up 2-1 headed into singles play, the Blue Jays added their third point from Aubrey Zhou, who prevailed over Sriya Krishnan 6-1, 6-2 in flight six. On court one, Kim got her revenge on Russano by defeating the senior 6-3, 6-4, to extend JHU's lead to 4-1. Johns Hopkins gained their clinching fifth point in flight four, where Samantha Wang defeated Fitzgerald 6-1, 6-2, to put the Blue Jays in the driver's seat.

Esterowitz earned her second win of the day, dispelling Langer 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6 super tiebreaker), before JHU went up 6-2 after Melvin got past Oh 6-4, 6-3, in fight five. Lavin capped off the day by earning the Scarlet and Black's third and final point of the day, denying Xiao 6-4, 6-7 (8-10 tiebreaker), 1-0 (super tiebreaker). 

Women's Tennis returns to action on Wednesday, April 17, as the Fords will make the trip to Faulkner Tennis Courts, to take on rival #17 Swarthmore. The match will be worth one point in the Hood Trophy Rivalry series.
