Women's Track & Field Takes First in Keogh Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team racked up 15 scoring performances and won two of the events at Saturday's Keogh Invitational to finish first in the team standings with 86 team points in the 11 team field. Saturday's events inside the Alumni Field House were also the Fords' final preparations before next weekend's Centennial Conference Championships at Ursinus.

Nicole Giannetti won the mile for Haverford's individual victory. Giannetti crossed the line in a time of 5:10.50 and got her closest competition from teammate Katie Sullivan who finished with a time of 5:10.68. Hannah Doll added a fifth place finish to that event, crossing the line in 5:25.74.

Haverford also won the 4x200 relay with the team of Marisa Antinori, Jessica Lopez, Kat Turner, and Kerry Quigley. That relay finished in a time of 1:51.09 to top rival Swarthmore by over two seconds. Lopez also placed fourth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.27 seconds while Turner was fifth overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.01 seconds. Turner's hurdle time was just one-hundredth of a second off her career best coming into the weekend.

The Fords also owned the fourth and fifth place 4x400 relay teams. The first relay of Marly Banatte, Quigley, Lopez, and Molly Hawkins crossed in a time of 4:20.53. The fifth place 4x400 relay of Hannah Yeakey, Amalia Axinn, Hannah Doll, and Sarah Wade finished in 4:35.61.

Several of those 4x400 relay entrants also competed in individual events throughout the day. Yeakey was second overall in the 800 meters as she finished with a time of 2:23.22. Teammates Hawkins (2:23.33) and Sophie Drew (2:23.60) were right on her heels in the photo finish. Jolie Jaycobs (11:07.55) and MaryKate Cavanaugh (11:14.52) placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 3,000 meter race.

Shot put was the only field event Haverford entered any athletes. Claire Sargent was third overall in that large field with her best throw being marked at 11.72 meters. Emily Anderson also turned in a scoring performance in the shot put with her best throw of 10.37 meters.

The Fords will now turn their attention to championship season as the conference's indoor championships get underway this coming Saturday, February 24 at Ursinus. They will continue over until Sunday during the two-day championship meet.
