Riffenburgh Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

Haverford, Pa. – Kelley Riffenburgh '15 has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team for the first time for her track and field achievements. The Haverford graduate was selected to the Academic All-Area team twice during her career for her cross country accomplishments. The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

Riffenburgh ended her senior campaign in grand style as she was the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year which is awarded to the student that has the highest grade-point-average among All-Centennial Conference teams. The distance runner was All-Centennial Conference honorable mention for finishing third during the 10,000m event at the conference outdoor championships.

During the indoor season, Riffenburgh became the third individual in Haverford College women's track history to qualify for the 5,000m event at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, placing 15th. She set the school record in the 5,000m (17:24.61) at the conference indoor championships, winning the individual title and won the Centennial Conference Track Athletes of the Week (Feb. 2) after scoring a victory in the 3,000m (10:23.92) at the Tufts Stampede (Jan. 31).

Riffenburgh is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Team by Villanova's Stephanie Schappert (Performer of the Year) and Alexandra Wasik, Amber Char of Widener; Osazenoriuwa Ebose, Sarah Nielsen and Liz Tawa of Swarthmore; Taylor Falvey of Philadelphia University; Kelsey Hay of Penn; and Melirah Searcy and Jessalynn Wright of Rowan.
