Hirsche Wins 10,000 Meters On Day One of Danny Curran Invitational

CHESTER. Pa. - On the first day of the outdoor season at the Danny Curran Invitational, the Haverford College women's track & field team was well represented with Katie Hirsche winning the 10,000 meters. Hirsche completed the race in 38:09.76, to edge out a challenge from Isabelle Pardew of Stevenson who took home second in 38:10.51 at the Widener-hosted meet. 

With the season just underway and most large meets beginning in earnest tomorrow, the time currently ranks as the third fastest 10,000 meter in the nation. Hirsche was joined in the top 15 by teammate Krysta Nichols, who crossed in 42:50.47. In addition to the 10,000-meter contingent, Lauren Tanel finished 20th in the 5,000 meters (20:12.9) ahead of Maya Holmes in 30th (21:28.37) and Annemarie Wood in 34th (22:04.14). 

In field events, Kayla Robinson posted a solid showing in the triple jump, clearing a mark of 10.26 meters (33 feet, 7.94 inches) for eighth place. In the shot put, Cortlyn Morris made her debut with a strong eighth place finish, notching a mark of 10.4 meters (34 feet, 1.45 inches). Sydney Cummings was 19th with a throw of 9.35 meters (30 feet, 8.11 inches) while Ceanne Lyon finished 29th with her throw of 6.78 meters (22 feet, 2.93 inches). 

Morris also represented the Fords in the discus, notching a 15th place showing with a mark of 25.6 meters (83 feet, 11.87 inches). 

Haverford now returns to action tomorrow with the full slate of action at the Danny Curran Invitational beginning at 11:15 a.m. Dominique Monroy kicks things off for the Fords in the 1,500 meters.
