Women's Track & Field Completes West Chester Stint With Bill Butler Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track & field team competed in the Bill Butler Invitational on Saturday, finishing eighth out of 20 teams at West Chester The team put in solid performances as they continue to build towards Centennial Conference Championships.

The 4x100 meter relay squad kicked things off, winning the event title in 49.33. The team composed of Jahsaiah Moses, Olivia D'Aulerio, Ally Landau, and Kayla Robinson got the baton around cleanly en route to the victory after failing to do so last week. 

Robinson has been extremely busy this season, and this meet was no different for the senior. Perhaps the highlight of her day came in the triple jump. Her very first jump was 10.95 meters (13 feet, 11.25 inches) and was good enough to finish second. Robinson also competed in the high jump, clearing 1.51 meters (4 feet, 11.5 inches) for seventh place overall. 

Robinson was also one of four Haverford athletes to compete in the 100-meter dash. D'Aulerio finished the best amongst the group, crossing the finish line in 12.98. The time was good enough for ninth, while Moses finished two places behind her in 11th with a time of 13.06. The aforementioned Robinson finished 13th in 13.07 while Landau was 14th with 13.07.

Isabel Thornberry and Sophia Furman took on 400-meter duties with Thornberry finishing in the top ten. The junior finished just above the 60-second barrier in 1:00.05 while Furman ran 1:10.01, just a second off her personal best.

Dominique Monroy matched her personal best in the 800 meters on Saturday. The sophomore showed how consistent she has been this season after running 2:25.49 for the second time in a row. Her time was good enough to finish seventh. 

She was joined in the event by three more personal best performances. Carly Priest finished 16th with a personal best time of 2:29.46. Annemarie Wood clocked 2:32.20 for a two-second improvement while Jessie Hausman ran a personal best completing two laps around the track with a time of 2:34.95.

Katie Hirsche dropped down to the 1500 meters and finished 13th in a deep field. Hirsche ran 5:05.31 while her teammates Audrey Carter and Hedy Goodman ran 5:37.99 and 5:51.48 respectively for Haverford. 

The only athlete for the Fords in the 100-meter hurdles was Ella Fleming. Fleming ran a one-second personal best crossing the finish line in 19.38. Her previous best was 20.11. The sophomore also took part in the long jump and finished 28th in a deep field with a mark of 4.13 meters (13 feet, 6.75 inches).

It was an active day for Haverford in the thrower's circle. Cortlyn Morris and Sarah Wilcher finished 10th and 12th respectively in the shot put. Morris threw 10.62 meters (34 feet, 10.25 inches) while Wilcher threw 10.41 meters (34 feet, 2 inches). 

Both throwers competed in the discus with Wilcher finishing fourth in the event. Wilcher's throw was a personal best 35.16 meters (115 feet, 4 inches), a mark that moved her up to No. 8 on Haverford's all-time list. Morris took 20th with a throw of 25.10 meters (82 feet, 4 inches).

Wilcher closed her day out with the hammer throw and a distance of 32.26 meters (105 feet, 10 inches). Her throw was good enough to finish in the top 20 at the meet in 17th. Ceanne Lyon and Claire Cywes also competed, throwing 25.17 meters (82 feet, 7 inches) and 24.70 meters (81 feet) respectively for Haverford. 

Cywes continued her throwing stint, as she followed up the hammer throw with a top-ten finish in the javelin. The senior finished tenth and threw 25.94 meters (85 feet, 1 inch).

Haverford will next head to Chester, Pa. for the first day of the Widener Invitational on April 21 with events scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Action will continue at Widener the following day at 10 a.m.
