Women's Track & Field Preps for Conference Championships with Haverford Tri-Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track & field team competed at its lone home outdoor meet of the 2024 season, the Haverford Tri-Meet, at Johnson Track Monday afternoon, with some strong showings in the lead up to the Centennial Conference Championships next weekend.

Sarah Wilcher dominated the throws as she was the top finisher in the shot put, discus, and hammer. In the shot put, she posted a mark of 11.07 inches, equivalent to 36 feet and four inches. Her discus throw measured 39.43 meters (129 feet, four inches), vaulting her to the second-best mark in program history and the best since the 2010 season. In the hammer, Wilcher's toss of 39.10 meters (128 feet, three inches) is also second in program history, only behind Unique Tuberville '20.

Summer Ryan finished second in the shot put with a toss of 8.64 meters (28 feet, 4.25 inches) and topped the javelin event with a throw of 22.94 meters (75 feet, three inches). Rachitha Kumar was second in the javelin with a personal best of 13.65 meters (44 feet, nine inches) and placed third in the discus with a throw of 17.44 meters (57 feet, three inches).

A large contingent took to the track for the 100-meter prelims, with Olivia D'Aulerio posting a personal best and securing a top 10 mark in program history in the prelims, clocking a time of 12.81. Nadine Tang finished second in 13.42 , followed by Shahla Mukhtar in third (14.03) and Sophie Gardiner in fourth with a personal best of 14.51 . In the finals, D'Aulerio once again finished first with a time of 13.904, while Tang secured second place in 13.50 .Mukhtar set a new personal best with a time of 13.97, and Gardiner finished fourth in 14.71 .

D'Aulerio also claimed victory in the 200 meters with a time of 26.07 ,ahead of Mukhtar, who clocked a personal best of 27.92 ,and Abby Ryan, who also achieved a personal best of 28.35. Gardiner achieved a personal best of 30.71 .

Anastasia Jaycobs finished second in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 1:03.66. Dominique Monroy achieved a personal record of 1:03.72, securing third place, with Brianna Feifer in fourth (1:07.38) and Sophia Furman in fifth with a personal best of 1:09.52.

The 800-meter race was led by Isabel Thornberry (2:21.11), followed by Jessie Hausman in second (2:33.75), Theresa Haupt in third (2:43.40), and Judy Xie in fourth with a personal best of 2:50.66.

Abby Ryan competed in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 18.57, Savannah Shaw was the top finisher in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, completing the event in a personal best time of 11:51.61. Alice Sappenfield finished second in a personal best of 12:12.17, while Poppy Chrisman was third with a personal best of 12:50.17.

Feifer delivered a strong performance in the high jump, achieving a personal best and conference qualifying mark with a leap of 1.30 meters (4 feet, 3.25 inches). Summer Ryan matched that mark.

Ella Fleming competed in both the triple jump and the long jump, setting a new personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 9.71 meters (31 feet, 10.25 inches) before achieving a distance of 4.26 meters (13 feet, 11.75 inches) in the long jump.

Next on the schedule for the Fords is the prestigious Penn Relays. The Haverford women's 4x400-meter relay squad, comprising Dominique Monroy, Anastasia Jaycobs, Olivia D'Aulerio, and Isabel Thornberry, will compete in the Centennial/MAC Relay at Franklin Field on Friday evening at 7:40 p.m.
