ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track & field team opened its stint at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a historic showing in the hammer throw, as well as a scoring performance in the pole vault, to sit in seventh after a limited day of action to open things at Scotty Wood Stadium on the Muhlenberg campus.

In one of the first events of the championships, Sarah Wilcher made an immediate mark as she shattered the program record in the hammer throw with her second toss of 47.25 meters (155 feet). Wilcher's mark was well clear of the previous Haverford-best mark of 129 feet, 11 inches that was set by Unique Tuberville '20 in 2019. Wilcher's toss is currently 77th in NCAA Division III and earned a silver medal, as she was behind just Faith Fezenko of Muhlenberg, who narrowly took the event crown with a toss of 48.41 meters (158 feet, 10 inches).

Wilcher has two more chances to represent Haverford, as she also has the shot put and the discus still to go in the throwing pit this weekend.

Senior Alice Creed also notched a scoring performance, as she took eighth place in the pole vault to earn a point for the Fords. She cleared 2.82 meters (nine feet, three inches) on her third attempt at the height before bowing out at 2.97 meters (nine feet, nine inches).

The only track event of the night for the Fords was the 10,000 meters as Haverford had two entrants in the longest distance event of the weekend. Julianna Watson finished in 42:40.55 for 14th place overall, while Audrey Carter was the 16th to cross in 45:21.6.

Haverford leaves day one at Muhlenberg with nine total points in the bank thanks to the strong showings from Wilcher and Creed.

The Fords will look to continue to place athletes in scoring positions when day two action begins on Saturday. The events start at 10 a.m. in Allentown.
