CC Preseason Poll: Volleyball Tabbed Second, Receives First Place Vote

Full Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - After a trip to the NCAA tournament following the 2021 campaign, the Haverford College volleyball team was selected second in the Centennial Conference Preseason Poll ahead of the 2022 season opener. The Fords, who return a pair of All-Conference selections in All-America Honorable Mention libero/defensive specialist Juliet Young and front row player Taylor Jones, returned to the Centennial Conference playoffs for the 18th time in the last 21 seasons last year.

That stretch included a season-best of nine consecutive wins in the middle of the season, as Haverford sprinted out to a 12-0 start. Haverford's 24 wins built on the 2019 season that saw the program register 22 wins, which at the time, was the most for the program in a single season since the 2014 squad that also notched 22 victories. Haverford also is receiving votes in the national polls, as they earned 24 total voting points in the Preseason release of the AVCA National Coaches Poll last week.

Johns Hopkins, who have won five-straight Centennial tournament titles, earned nine of the 11 first-place votes for 99 points overall. Haverford (84) and Swarthmore (81) finished second and third in the voting, each earning one first-place vote. Franklin & Marshall checked in at fourth with 77 points, followed by Gettysburg in fifth with 68 points and Dickinson in sixth with 54 points. Rounding out the field were Muhlenberg in seventh (38), McDaniel in eighth (35), Washington College in ninth (30), Ursinus in tenth (29), and Bryn Mawr in 11th (10).

The 2022 regular season kicks off with the annual Haverford Invitational inside Gooding '84 Arena on Friday, September 2. The Fords will take on Cabrini (5:30 p.m.) and Elizabethtown (7:30 p.m.) ahead of contests with Stockton (11 a.m.) and New Jersey City (2 p.m.) on Saturday to round out the first weekend of action. A test against nationally ranked opposition comes early in the year with a home test against No. 22 Susquehanna on Friday, September 9 (5:30 p.m.).
