Taylor Jones Picks Up Inaugural CC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week Award

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College sophomore middle blocker Taylor Jones has been named the first-ever winner of the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week Award, as the honors were given out for the first time in Week 1 of the 2022 season. Jones, a first-time player of the week designee, sprinted out to a hot start to anchor the Fords through the first weekend of the season.  Jones added 21 total blocks in four matches at the Haverford Invitational, picking up tournament MVP honors in the process as the Fords went 3-1 to start the season, with wins over Cabrini, Stockton, and New Jersey City.

Nationally, the sophomore co-captain from Yorba Linda, California ranks third in all of NCAA with 21 total blocks. She currently leads the Centennial in blocks per set (1.17), total blocks (21), block assists (15), and solo blocks (6) while also ranking third in hitting percentage (.427) and 6th in kills (38).

Jones and the Fords will return to action on Friday night as the team opens up the second weekend tournament of the season, the Ford Invitational. The invitational will feature marquee matchups as the Fords do battle with #19 Susquehanna on Friday (5:30 p.m.) night along with sides from two other teams receiving votes in the national polls on Saturday, with showdowns against Springfield (11 a.m.) and SUNY Cortland (2 p.m.)
