LANCASTER, Pa. - The Haverford College volleyball team (8-7, 2-2 CC) was defeated by host Franklin & Marshall (10-6, 3-0 CC) in Centennial Conference action Wednesday, as the hosts came away with the 3-0 sweep inside the Mayser Center.

Izabela Potocnjak added 10 kills to pace the Fords while Taylor Jones had a stellar contest with eight kills on just 12 swings, notching three total blocks. Cameryn DeBlecourt added 13 assists while Gabrielle Fontanilla notched 10. Juliet Young added 10 digs on the evening.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair that saw the Fords jet out to a 6-3 lead before the Diplomats responded to tie the score at 6-6 and eventually take a 10-7 lead. Back-to-back kills from Gianna Mangiamele put the hosts up 14-11, but a 6-0 run Haverford run again put the Fords in the lead at 17-14 as Taylor Jones was integral at the service line in that stretch.

The Diplomats battled back to tie things at 17-17, and eventually went ahead 22-19, prompting a Haverford timeout. The Fords had another run in them, as Jadyn Elliott and Jones contributed kills before a Young service ace to tie things at 22-22, but F&M closed on a 3-0 run to take the first set as Mangiamele gave Franklin & Marshall set point before an attack error gave the hosts the first set.

The two teams were deadlocked in the second set, as back-to-back service aces from Téa Kuzbari put Haverford up 14-12. A run from the Diplomats with Sydney Levins at the service line saw F&M pull back ahead at 17-14, but Haverford rallied back to take an 18-17 lead with Elliott and Eliana Brown contributing kills. From that point, it was a 5-0 Diplomats run to wrestle control of the contest, as eventually the spurt hit 8-1 in favor of the hosts to take the frame.

Haverford fell behind early in the third set, with Franklin & Marshall out on an early 9-3 run to start things. That run reached 13-5 as the Fords struggled to find their footing in the frame, but a service ace from Jones trimmed the lead down to 15-9. The Diplomats responded with a 5-0 run to take a 20-9 lead, but the Fords had one last chance to climb back in the contest, jetting out on an 8-0 run while facing match point. That run was keyed by Brown at the service line, as she notched two service aces while Kendall Otridge and Potocnjak added a block in the stretch to keep things alive.

Mangiamele and Coco Shultz each recorded 10 kills in the match for the hosts, while Levins notched nine. Liah Perez (20 assists) and Hannah McCarthy (13 assists) helped anchor the offense in the middle, while Meredith Mangum added 17 digs.

The Fords now return home to Gooding '84 Arena for a Saturday matinee against Dickinson. The contest with the Red Devils is slated for 1 p.m. as Centennial Conference play continues.
