Men's Cross Country Picked To Repeat As Conference Champions

2016 Centennial Conference Men's Cross Country Poll

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's cross country team has been chosen as the number one team in the Centennial Conference by the conference head coaches in their annual preseason poll. Haverford received seven first-place votes (63 points). The Fords finished six points clear of Johns Hopkins, who was picked second with 57 overall tallies and two first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

Dickinson was selected as the No. 3 team, followed by Swarthmore, Muhlenberg, Gettysburg, Franklin & Marshall, Ursinus and McDaniel.

In 2015, the Fords captured back-to-back conference crowns, defending their Centennial Conference Championship with five runners placing inside the top ten at the conference meet, highlighted by senior Charlie Marquardt's second straight individual title. Haverford scored its 20th conference title in 23 seasons while Marquardt became the 18th Ford to win the conference event.  Haverford qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship with its first place finish at the Mideast Regional hosted by Dickinson College. The squad secured its 23rd consecutive trip to the NCAA meet.

Head Coach Tom Donnelly's team gets the season underway at the Alumni Open (Sept. 3) before hosting the Main Line Invitational (Sept. 16). The Fords will host the Centennial Conference Championship meet on October 29.
