Baseball sweeps season series from Ursinus with 10-1 victory

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team took an early lead and never looked back defeating visiting Ursinus College, 10-1, Friday afternoon. The Fords took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when shortstop Charlie Carluccio hit a home run to right center field. Carluccio's blast came on the heels of a Louis DeRosa leadoff double.

The Fords used the small ball to double their lead in the third. Carluccio singled then stole second to put himself in scoring position. After advancing on Jake Kaden's single, Carluccio scored on centerfielder Jeff Butera's single. Catcher Jeremy Zoll was robbed of a hit as Ursinus centerfielder Ben Gresh made a beautiful diving catch. Third baseman Mike Galetta singled to knock in Kaden for Haverford's second and final run of the inning.

In the fourth inning leftfielder Tommy Clarke scored Ursinus' (8-7, 0-2 CC) lone run on a passed ball. The Fords responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Haverford (9-5, 2-0 CC) took advantage of three walks, a wild pitch and an error from Ursinus to tally two more runs in the fifth.

The Fords scored their final two runs of the game in the seventh. Carluccio walked to give Haverford its first runner of the inning. Consecutive singles from Butera, Zoll and Galetta then allowed Carluccio and Galetta to score.

Carluccio had a huge offensive game for the Fords going 3-for-4 with a walk, three RBIs and four runs scored.
