Gardner Center Policies

  • The Gardner Center and its facilities are available to Haverford College and Bryn Mawr College students, faculty and staff as well as Haverford College alumni/ae.
  • Anyone entering the Gardner Center must show a college-issued ID card.
  • Haverford College and Bryn Mawr College students may bring one guest into the facility and must accompany that guest at all times. Guests must be signed in/out at the information desk.
  • Haverford College and Bryn Mawr College employees may bring one guest into the facility and must accompany that guest at all times. Guests must be signed in/out at the information desk.
  • Haverford College employee spouses and/or children over 18 years of age may obtain their ID cards. Employees’ children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by the employee at all times.
  • Haverford College alumni/ae may use the Gardner Center but must show an ID card. To obtain an ID card, an alumnus/a must contact the Athletic Department (610-896-1120).
  • An Haverford alumnus/a may bring one guest into the facility and must accompany that guest at all times. Guests must be signed in/out at the information desk.
  • Haverford College alumni/ae spouses and/or children over 18 years of age may obtain their ID cards by contacting the Athletic Department. Alumni/ae children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by the alumnus/a at all times.
  • A limited amount of equipment is available at the information desk. All equipment must be signed in/out by the monitor on duty. Monitors will hold the user’s ID card while the equipment is signed out.
  • General locker rooms are available on the main floor of the Gardner Center. Individuals must supply their own locks and empty his/her locker by the end of the day. A limited number of lockers are available for full-time use for those members of the Haverford College community (faculty/staff/alumni) who can demonstrate a need for a locker and who do not live on campus. Please contact the Athletic Facilities Manager to inquire about locker availability.

Fitness Center/Strength and Conditioning Policies

In order to ensure a safe, productive and clean work environment, the fitness center/strength and conditioning staff asks for cooperation with the following policies:

  • All Gardner Center policies apply.
  • Proper athletic attire is required.
  • Re-rack all free weights in proper spots.
  • Use collars when placing free weights on the bar.
  • Equipment can only be removed from room if given permission.
  • Spotters are required when using heavy free weights. A workout partner is recommended.
  • Safety is essential! Use proper form when exercising and request an orientation if unfamiliar with machines and/or exercises.
  • Limit cardio workouts to 30 minutes when others are waiting for machines.
  • Allow others to “work in” with you if you are performing more than one set on a strength training machine. Please vacate machines in between sets. 
  • Clean all machines, mats and benches after use.
  • All gym bags, coats, and non-exercise related items must be put in a locker or cubby. 
  • No food or drink other than water in a plastic bottle.
  • No chalk unless given special permission.
  • Limit cell phone use.
  • No horseplay!!
Use of the Tellem Fitness Center is a privilege. Please help us maintain the current nature of the facility. Respect the room and its users.

Alumni Field House Policies

  • Absolutely no food, smoking, gum, or drinks, except water, are allowed in the Field House
  • Track spikes are not permitted on the tennis court surface
  • Vehicles should park in the South Parking Lot ONLY
  • A Haverford issued ID must be used to enter the building
  • All Haverford College equipment should be returned where you found it
  • All floor tape used on the track or tennis court surface, must be approved by the Director of Athletic Facilities, prior to use
  • Only Indoor shots are permitted in the Field House. Steel shots, discus, and javelin are not permitted
  • No one is permitted to use the Field House during practice times. Please refer to the facilities schedule for availability.
  • All outside groups and individuals must contact the Director of Athletic Facilities to reserve a time to use the facility. Without the approval of the Athletic Facilities Manager, all groups or individuals not affiliated with Haverford College, are not permitted in the Field House
