HAVERFORD, Pa. - Casey Fox belted a pair of home runs and starting pitcher Tommy Bergjans went eight innings to earn his seventh win of the year without a loss for Haverford College in its 3-1 victory over visiting Franklin & Marshall College on Friday in Centennial Conference baseball action at Kannerstein Field.

Fox led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to push Haverford (26-7, 11-5 CC) back in front, 2-1, after F&M (19-16, 10-6) scored a run to tie the game in the top half of the frame.

The second blast by Fox came with one out in the eighth, landing in nearly the same spot over the left field fence. Both home runs came off F&M starter Sean Cosgriff who was lifted for reliever Andrew Green in the eighth after Haverford's Justin Coulter lashed a first-pitch single up the middle following Fox's second homer.

Cosgriff (4-4) ended up taking the loss for F&M surrendering all three Haverford runs off nine hits and a walk over seven and one-third innings.

The Fords manufactured their opening run of the game against Cosgriff with two outs in the fourth.

Coulter singled to right-center then moved to third on Alex Hudak's single to nearly the same piece of turf. Matt Liscovitz singled to center field to allow Coulter to trot home for the early lead.

Bergjans (7-0) fell short of his record-setting, 18-strikeout performance on April 20 in a win against Washington College, but still fanned seven Diplomats on Friday and allowed just the one run off six hits and a walk to earn the victory. Kevin Goff came on in relief to start the ninth and threw a perfect inning to pick up his sixth save of the year, four of which have come in the past four games.

Friday's seven strikeouts lifts Bergjans' season total to 78, equaling the number he fanned during his freshman season on the hill in 2012. The single-season strikeout record for the Fords is 85, set by Chaon Garland in 1990 and tied in 1998 by Jeremy Berman.

Coulter's day finished with a 3-for-4 outing and extended his current hitting streak to seven games.

Earlier in the week, the Fords downed the Diplomats on their home diamond, taking a 4-3 decision at Caplan Field.

Friday's victory carries Haverford, by virtue of a Gettysburg College loss on Friday, into a second-place tie with Gettysburg in the league standings.

The final date on the Centennial slate is Saturday when the Fords will travel to Gettysburg, Pa., to take on the Bullets in a doubleheader match-up.
