CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Haverford College baseball team saw an early lead in Game 1 slip away as the Fords dropped both games of the doubleheader and got swept by host Washington College in Centennial Conference action at Athey Baseball Park on Saturday afternoon.

Haverford (14-15, 7-6 CC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of Game 1 after RBIs from Mike Tentilucci and Thomas Vollaro. Justin Coulter started the frame with a single to the left side and Marley Randazzo reached after getting hit by a pitch. Both runners would advance one base after a wild pitch and Tentilucci followed with a suicide squeeze that scored Coulter. Vollaro followed suit and laid down a suicide squeeze of his own that brought home Randazzo.

The lead did not stand, though, as Washington (15-16, 6-8) responded by plating five in the bottom of the inning and two more in the next frame to take a 7-2 advantage.

The Fords scored on another suicide squeeze in the fifth when George Hatamiya executed a sacrifice bunt that scored Nick Miranda from third.

The Shoremen tallied four more runs to close out the game and pulled away for an 11-3 decision in the opener.

Vollaro and Tentilluci totaled four of the Fords' nine hits in Game 1 as both players recorded two hits and scored a run.

The nightcap saw the hosts score in the first three innings and jump out to a quick 6-0 lead. Haverford plated a run in the fourth and seventh innings, but Washington's four-run sixth put the game out of reach as the Shoremen won Game 2, 10-2.

Shortstop William Bannard went 2-for-4 in the second game and designated hitter Yannick Villanueva batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.

Fords' starting pitchers Kyle Waney (1-2) and John Miraglia (0-3) struck out a combined nine batters in their losses.

Haverford will look to get back on track on Monday, April 21, when it travels to Muhlenberg College to take on the Mules in the series-finale between the two teams. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
