HAVERFORD, Pa. – Freshman Mike Schmandt of the Haverford College baseball team was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week. The freshman had four multi-hit outings last week in picking up his first career weekly accolade.

Schmandt is currently on a seven-game hitting streak, hitting .419 (13-for-31) during that span while also scoring seven runs.

In the Fords' 9-6 loss to Franklin and Marshall last Friday, Schmandt became the first Ford to hit two home runs in a game since senior Casey Fox on Apr. 26, 2013. On Saturday, the freshman tied his career high with four hits, scored four times and had three RBI in the Fords' 18-3 victory in game one and added two hits in Haverford's 6-4 win in game two.

During conference play, Schmandt led the team with a .375 average, 21 RBI, a .643 slugging percentage and 36 total bases. He also made four appearances against conference foes on the mound and did now allow an earned run in 8 1/3 innings. The freshman nabbed his first career save vs. Washington College earlier this season.

The baseball team will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a home game vs. Neumann University tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. The Fords will then travel to Johns Hopkins to begin the Centennial Conference playoffs on Thursday beginning at 3 p.m. Head coach Dave Beccaria's squad won last year's Centennial Conference title and will look for its third in four years this weekend.
