Baseball Has Three Selected to All-CC Teams

Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team had senior Tommy Bergjans (first team), sophomore Ben Verducci (second team) and senior Casey Fox (second team) named to the All-Centennial Conference teams today.

Bergjans was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team for the third consecutive season, making him the seventh player in conference history to achieve that mark. The right-hander had a fantastic 2015 season finishing with a 5-3 record, 1.07 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 67 1/3 innings. At press time, the senior is the NCAA Division III leader in strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings (14.48). He became the first Ford in program history to strike out over 100 batters in a season and is the Centennial Conference all-time leader in strikeouts. The two-time Division III All-American posted eight 10+ strikeout outings this year and finishes his career with 18 total, the most in conference history. He also became the first pitcher in the Centennial Conference to ever win the Pitcher of the Year award three times.

Verducci was named to the all-conference team for the first time while Fox has three conference accolades in his career. The sophomore hit .376 this season, good for ninth in the conference. He tied for the team lead with 35 hits and was second in average, slugging percentage (.473) and multi-hit games (10). The second baseman also scored 19 runs, had eight extra-base hits, 15 RBI and eight stolen bases.

Playing in 34 of the Fords' 35 games, Fox was the primary third baseman while also making starts as the designated hitter, first baseman and pitcher. The senior led the team with 25 RBI and four home runs. He was second on the team with 34 hits and tied for second in doubles (eight) and walks (13). Fox compiled eight multi-hit games, five multi-RBI outings and swiped 10 bags.

Craig Hoelzer of Johns Hopkins was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year. Franklin and Marshall's Dan Marano was the conference Rookie of the Year while his coach Ryan Horning was named Coach of the Year. Swarthmore's Wesley Fishburn was awarded the Gold Glove of the Year and his teammate Scoop Ruxin was the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Haverford had eight players, Grant Finn, John Masella, John Miraglia, Marley Randazzo, Mike Tentilucci, Verducci, Fox and Bergjans, make the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. The Fords were tied for the most in the conference with Ursinus.

The baseball team finished the 2015 season with 15 wins and made the Centennial Conference Tournament for the 10th time in head coach Dave Beccaria's tenure.
