HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team (9-4) fell short in its contest with the Rowan University Profs (7-9) on an otherwise beautiful afternoon at Kannerstein Field on Wednesday, 7-4.

Sophomore shortstop Ben Furlong went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs batted in, and a run scored to highlight the Fords' offense. First baseman Ben Verducci and second baseman Zach Taylor each went 2-for-4 in the contest. With Verducci's two hits, he raised his batting average to .418 on the season.

Haverford jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the second inning. Furlong started things off with a double down the right field line to drive in two of his teammates. The next batter, George Hatamiya, hit a sacrifice fly to score another. Later in the inning, Verducci made it 4-0 on a squeeze play.

Rowan continually chipped away, scoring five runs over the next four innings.

The Fords threatened in the bottom of the sixth when Furlong hit his second double and then Ethan Lee-Tyson reached base via a walk. They also put two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth when Verducci singled and Matt Goss was hit by a pitch. However, they couldn't capitalize either time.

On the mound, Grant Finn started the game for Haverford and gave up three earned runs over six innings, striking out four and walking just one. John Miraglia pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

The Fords will be in action again Saturday when they travel to New York University for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. The next home game will be Tuesday, April 5 against Swarthmore.
