ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The Haverford College baseball team (17-9, 6-2 CC) was defeated on the road by Muhlenberg College (14-12, 5-1 CC) Friday afternoon, with a final score of 5-2.

As a team, Haverford struck out just three times and walked six times. But for the second game in a row, the Mules prevented runs effectively and allowed just two from the Fords. The two teams also met last Wednesday.

Haverford found itself trailing relatively early on as Muhlenberg scored three runs in the third inning and then one more in the fourth to take a 4-0 advantage. From that point forward, the Fords mostly had things under control as they chipped away.

Offensively for the Fords, Matt Goss got things going in the fifth. The Haverford three hole hitter doubled to right to score Ben Verducci, getting Haverford onto the board. Goss finished the game 3-for-4, adding two singles. The sophomore left fielder is batting .390 this season.

Two innings later, Haverford scored again when Zach Taylor reached on a fielder's choice and Ethan Lee-Tyson scored from second after an error by the Muhlenberg infield. Lee-Tyson went 2-for-3 in the game with a triple.

John Miraglia drew the start for the Fords, striking out four over six innings. Tom Phillips came in in relief and fanned three in two scoreless innings.

Haverford has a quick turnaround as the Fords return home for a doubleheader on Saturday against No. 21 McDaniel College. The two Centennial Conference teams will begin play at 12:30 p.m. with the second game following shorter after the conclusion of the first.
