COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- The Haverford College baseball team (19-10, 8-3 CC) needed just six hits and some excellent pitching to defeat Ursinus College (16-14, 2-7 CC) in a Centennial Conference contest on Tuesday afternoon. After tying the game in the eighth inning on a bases loaded balk, Matt Goss drove in Ethan Lee-Tyson in the top of the tenth inning to score the game's decisive run and the Fords would hang on for a 3-2 win.

The game went scoreless through the first five innings, backed by a stout outing from starter Justin Herring. The sophomore righty gave up just one hit and one unearned run, striking out out three over six innings. Herring has been almost unhittable lately, giving up just two earned runs in his last 28 innings.

George Hatamiya came in to pitch relief, earning the win after four innings of one-run ball. He struck out four and allowed two hits.

Six different Haverford batters had a hit in the contest, but none were bigger than Goss' RBI single in the top of the tenth. Earlier in the inning, Lee-Tyson hit a double, the team's only extra base hit of the day.

Before the bases loaded balk tied the game in the eighth, Haverford tied it up once before in the seventh when Thomas Vollaro singled to score Zach Taylor.

The Fords will play Ursinus again this Thursday at 3:30 p.m. on Kannerstein Field.
