HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team (20-10, 9-3 CC) used an offensive onslaught to defeat Ursinus College (16-15, 2-8 CC) by a score of 13-2 in a Centennial Conference game on Kannerstein Field on a beautiful spring Thursday afternoon. The pitching was equally impressive as the team gave up just two runs. The Fords were fresh off of an extra innings win over the Bears on Tuesday and were able to carry the momentum back home and then some. With the win, Haverford closes in on Johns Hopkins for first place in the conference.

Haverford wasted no time getting to work, scoring six runs on six hits in the second inning and chasing Ursinus' starting pitcher after just an inning and a third. Back-to-back doubles by Spencer Sohmer and Sam Partee got the Fords on the board but that was just the beginning. The Fords' next three batters singled, two of them on bunts, giving the team five consecutive hits in the inning. Ben Verducci later doubled to drive in two runs for the sixth base hit of the frame.

The home team struck again in the sixth inning with three runs on RBI singles by Nick Ott and Yannick Villanueva and a Verducci sacrifice fly. Both players had RBI singles again the next inning, another frame in which they scored three runs.

John Miraglia drew the start and earned the win after eight innings of quality pitching. He kept things under control for the duration of the contest, striking out five batters in the process. John Masella came in to pitch an inning of scoreless relief.

Five players had multi-hit games, including Vollaro who went 2-for-2 with two walks and crossed the plate four times. Ben Furlong had two hits in four at bats including a solo home run, scoring three runs and driving in two. Leadoff hitter Ethan Lee-Tyson was 2-for-5 with two runs, an RBI, and a pair of stolen bases.

Head coach Dave Beccaria's team will take the field again on Saturday for a road doubleheader against Washington College. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
