HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team (21-10, 10-5 CC) picked up a Centennial Conference win over Franklin & Marshall (15-19, 6-9 CC) on Monday afternoon at Kannerstein Field. The Fords' offense was sparked by designated hitter Sam Partee, who hit a grand slam to left field in the third inning.

For Partee, a freshman, the four-run blast was his second round tripper of the year, having also hit a home run against Swarthmore (April 8). He finished the game 1-for-3 with the home run and a walk.

Before the slam, the Fords crossed the plate two innings prior when Spencer Sohmer drove in Ethan Lee-Tyson, who reached on a hit by pitch, on a single down the left field line. Lee-Tyson was hit by a pitch in each of his first three at bats, tying a school record for times hit at bat in a game. Sohmer led the team with two hits, his tenth multi-hit game of the season.

Haverford scored its sixth run on a Ben Furlong double to drive in Zach Taylor in the sixth inning.

The Fords displayed excellent contact at the plate, striking out just three total times in the game.

On the mound, Justin Herring threw a perfect first three innings before allowing a single in the fourth. Herring, the team's ERA leader, finished the day with five innings pitched and four strikeouts, allowing just two hits. He also picked up his sixth win of the season and still has not received a losing decision. In relief, George Hatamiya pitched four innings, striking out three and giving up two earned runs.

The Fords were originally scheduled to play Widener on Wednesday. However, that game has been cancelled. Instead, coach Dave Beccaria's team will see action on the road against familiar opponent Franklin & Marshall on Friday at 3:30 p.m. After a quick turnaround, the Fords will wrap up their season at home with a doubleheader against Gettysburg on Saturday.
