Baseball Has Seven Selected to All-CC Teams, Beccaria Coach of the Year

HAVERFORD, Pa. - It was announced today that five members of the Centennial Conference Champion Haverford College baseball team have been named to all-conference honors. Justin Herring and Sam Partee were named to the all-conference first team while Stephen Ridings, John Masella, and Centennial Conference Tournament MVP Ethan Lee-Tyson were named to the second team. In addition, head coach Dave Beccaria was named Coach of the Year.

Herring, a sophomore, was named to the all-conference accolade for the first time after leading the league in ERA (1.31) and finishing the regular season and conference postseason with a perfect record of 7-0. In 10 apperances, Herring struck out 66 batters through 62 innings. He drew the Fords' first start of the season, throwing five innings and striking out six in a winning effort over Dominican University (Ill.). His best start of the season came at home against St. John Fisher when he struck out 10 over seven shutout innings and allowed just three hits. In the Centennial Conference tournament, he threw seven shutout innings against McDaniel and punched out 11.

Freshman Sam Partee was also named to the first team. Partee led the Haverford offense over Johns Hopkins in the conference clinching game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. He's batting .276 with three home runs this season and has hits in seven of his last eight games.

Ridings was brilliant at times this season and currently ranks second in the conference in strikeouts (76). His season was highlighted by a one-hitter in a win over No. 21 McDaniel. In the outing, Ridings went all nine innings and struck out 11.

Masella, a junior, has been Beccaria's most frequently used relief pitcher this year, sporting a 2.65 ERA in 34 innings. He struck out 20 over the course of the season.

Lee-Tyson, a freshman, is hitting .360 and really caught fire toward the end of the eyar, batting .667 in the postseason on 10-for-15 hitting with a home run and eight runs scored in three games. In the championship game, he was 2-for-5 with a run scored and his third stolen base of the tournament.

In addition, shortstop Ben Furlong and Spencer Sohmer were named honorable mentions. Furlong, a shortstop, was also given the Gold Glove of the Year award, named to the best defensive player in the conference.

Coach Beccaria led his team to their ninth straight Centennial Conference postseason appearance and third title since 2012. In the midst of his 16th season with the Fords, he has now compiled a record of 350-249-3 as their head coach.

Haverford now awaits the results of the selection committee to find out who its first opponent will be in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.
