Justin Herring Named D3Baseball Preseason All-American

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College baseball junior pitcher Justin Herring has been named to the 2017 D3Baseball.com Preseason All-American Team, garnering honorable mention honors, the organization announced on Thursday afternoon. Only members of the 2016 postseason All-America or All-Region teams were eligible for nomination to the preseason teams.

Herring was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Second Team following the 2016 campaign as well as D3Baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team after posting the best ERA in the Centennial Conference with a 1.58 mark. Herring's 67 strikeouts were good for fifth in the Centennial Conference. The Douglasville, Pa. product sported a perfect 7-0 record, which was good for third in the conference.

Herring posted seven scoreless outings of five innings or more in 2016, including seven shutout frames with 11 strikeouts against McDaniel in the opening round of the Centennial Conference tournament as the Fords took home the conference title en route to a third NCAA regional appearance in five seasons.

Herring struck out 10 or more batters three times in 2016 and walked more than three batters just once. He was named CC Pitcher of the Week (Mar. 21) after striking out 10 batters in seven innings against St. John Fisher.

Haverford will open up the 2017 campaign on March 5th in Ft. Meyers, Fla. as part of the Gene Gusic Collegiate Classic. The first home game at Kannerstein Field is slated for March 15 against DeSales.
