COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College baseball team improved to 3-0 in Centennial Conference play with a 5-1 victory over Ursinus on Thursday afternoon. The contest was a rematch from a pair of thrilling conference playoff games a season ago in which the teams split.

Haverford received a stellar start from junior Luke Duris (2-2). The junior struck out four and allowed just two hits and an unearned run in his seven innings of work. Ethan Lee-Tyson had three hits on the day. The Fords also saw multi-hit games from Matt Goss and Ben Somorjai.

The Fords plated a run in the top of the first inning against Pierce Greenleaf (1-2). Lee-Tyson singled up the middle with one out and came into score as Spencer Sohmer reached on a fielding error by the Ursinus left fielder. Ursinus erased the impact of the error in the bottom of the inning as Duris allowed an unearned run. Alex Mumme reached on an error, stole second, and came in to score the tying run on Carter Usowski's double into centerfield.

The Fords loaded the bases in the second inning, but couldn't push across a run. The Fords got the lead back in the third inning after the first three reached safely. Sohmer doubled off of Greenleaf to begin the inning. Michael Schwarze followed with an infield single and Goss then singled through the right side, plating Sohmer. Ben Furlong delivered an RBI groundout for a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth, Haverford plated a run on an infield single from Ben Somorjai. Against new pitcher Matt Bull, the Fords pushed across the fifth run of the contest in the top of the seventh as Owen Plambeck reached on an error, scoring pinch runner Harrison Burns.

Andrew Johnson pitched the final two innings of the contest, allowing just one baserunner. The story of the contest for Haverford was Duris, as the righty held the Ursinus offense at bay all afternoon long. He stranded runners in six of his seven innings of work. 

The Fords and Bears will now wrap up the home-and-home series tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. as the two squads head to Kannerstein Field on the Haverford campus. The Fords will then travel to Franklin & Marshall for a Saturday doubleheader with matchups slated for 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
